Bespoke new-build family home in a rural setting.
Our clients, keen to maintain their local roots, appointed us to design a bespoke home on a large, rural site which had a history of three prior refusals for development. Following necessary due diligence, including obtaining guidance from the Local Area Planner, we prepared a well-considered, all-encompassing design to integrate the dwelling into the landscape with careful consideration in the selection and application of external materials to achieve a pleasing aesthetic. Planning Approval was successfully obtained after working closely with the Planning Department.
Once Planning Approval was granted, we were appointed to progress to Technical Design for Tender / Construction. During the design development we considered a range of methods of construction to achieve compliance with the rigorous new statutory energy efficiency requirements which we assessed by undertaking a Provisional (Design Stage) BER Assessment.
Following completion of the tender process, and selection of the contractor, we administered the contract for the project. Works commenced mid-August 2020 and completion was achieved in November 2021, despite works ceasing on several occasions due to the closure of non-essential construction sites because of restrictions imposed by government due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
